What's Required Before Your Vehicle Leaves Our Yard

Compliance, Explained Simply

What's Required Before Your Vehicle Leaves Our Yard

You insure the vehicle for the full hire or lease term and provide proof before collection. We recommend Goods-in-Transit and Public Liability cover alongside your vehicle policy, with excess and limits set by your insurer. We hire to both businesses and individuals, and everyone signs the hire agreement and pays the bond plus one week's rent in advance.

Compliance runs both ways. Loads must be secured to the Truck Loading Code using rated restraints — curtains are not a load restraint unless they're within their rated limits. We operate zero tolerance for alcohol, drugs, and reckless driving, and tolls, parking tickets, and speeding fines remain the hirer's responsibility; we forward notices and request proof of payment.

Clear Rules, Applied Consistently

Insurance, Bond And Compliance Across Every Hire

Every hire and lease at SS Rentals runs on the same insurance, bond, and compliance conditions, so drivers and business owners know exactly what's expected before the vehicle leaves Tamahere.

For business accounts we may request an NZBN, TSL, an insurance certificate, and trade references. Drivers must hold the correct licence class — Class 2, 4, or 5 — with a Dangerous Goods endorsement whenever the load includes dangerous goods.

Happy Customers

Real feedback from transport operators.

"We trialled SS Rentals for a regional DG run and appreciated the straight rules: Class 5 licence, DG endorsement, and Truck Loading Code compliance. The vehicle came with safety gear; straps were supplied by arrangement. When a tyre punctured, repair was charged at cost as stated. Class 5 curtainsider truck hire that actually matches the contract."

Daniel Hargreaves

Regional DG Freight Customer

"We move DG occasionally and needed a compliant combination without delays. SS Rentals hired us a curtainsider pull trailer and reminded our team that a Class 5 driver with DG endorsement was required. They handled HPMV permitting and stayed within NZTA rules throughout. Support was on-point when we needed route advice mid-contract."
